What is Django Orchestrated
An eight-piece ensemble focusing on Django Reinhardt's lesser-known and lost compositions (as well as his classics), reimagining them with the sound of big bands such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie, composers Django admired and listened to.
Django Reinhardt, known as the inventor of Gypsy Jazz, not only redefined the guitar but he was also an outstanding composer. His most famous songs represent only part of his musical imagination, and that's what Django Orchestrated is: the reprise of his complete works.
Led by Francisco Batista on guitar and arrangements, and featuring some of Berlin’s finest musicians, the project explores Django’s compositional side and how his music might have sounded in a larger ensemble.
